By December 2003, it had been downloaded 1 million times. After 7 months of development, in February 2005 Version 2 of Peer Guardian was released as a beta.

The original version was released for free and the source code was made available under an open source license. The development of version 2.0 was led by Cory Nelson, and aimed to resolve many of the shortcomings of Version 1.

Peer Guardian is a freeware software app filed under firewalls and made available by Phoenix Labs for Windows.

The review for Peer Guardian has not been completed yet, but it was tested by an editor here on a PC and a list of features has been compiled; see below.

Though its FOSS, it there isn’t a Linux port of it yet. Click on Plugins and ensure that IP FIlter is checked Now Click on Apply.

The aim of its use was to block peers on the same torrent download from any visibility of your own peer connection using IP lists.

The Windows version of this program has been discontinued in favor of other applications (Phoenix Labs encourage current Peer Guardian users to migrate to Peer Block which is based on Peer Guardian 2 Development on Peer Guardian started in late 2002, led by programmer Tim Leonard.

Not only does this allow you to make modifications or even branch off into your own project, but it encourages peer review of the code making sure any bugs are eliminated swiftly.

Because Peer Guardian 2 is Open Source, you can rest assured there are no backdoors or spyware included.
